The robot transitions with the help of custom-made mechanical shells. These shells can uniquely extend and convert the motion of robots with embedded mechanisms. As a result, the hermit crab robot can offer a variety of interactive functionality by self-reconfiguration.

The general approach of this robot is how physical interfaces and computers in our daily life can adapt and reconfigure for user interactions with passive attachments.

Who knew that 3D printing could do away with robots? All you need is the proper materials and little patience, et voila! You got your own robot.

Fourteen-year-old Belle is battling bone cancer. So when asked about her wish? She asked for a pet. But not just any regular pet. Through the help of Victoria Pea, her dream pet came to life. Companies came together and provided electronics. More came with the expertise needed to build software, pulling boards together, building the mechanical, and putting the skin together. Electrical engineers were also brought in of course. Sculptors and artists also had their fair share of magic. 

It took about a year-and-a-half for everything to bear fruit. The finished product is a wireless, move-on-it’s own, one-of-a-kind robotic dragon. The purple and pink robot mechanically purred every time it was petted on its nose. It comes complete with a tail that wags. Like normal pets, it sits and lays down. 

The animations are pre-programmed for it to react accordingly. Every part of the dragon is brand new. From the 3D printed scales, to the one-of-a-kind head filled with teeth.

“It’s as close to a dragon as can be, as a robot” Belle said once she was united with her dream pet.
