May 26, 2022Singapore Discovers New 3D Bioprinting Method With Clearer Pigmentation For Skin
Researchers from the Southeast Asian country have created a new method that could control the pigmentation in a 3D printed skin. This is good news for future research and use of 3D printed skin for grafting, toxicology, and chemical testing.
Researchers from A*STAR’s Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) and the Singapore Centre for 3D Printing (SC3DP) at Nanyang Technological University created the lifelike fabricated skin through the use of 3D bioprinting. They controlled the distribution of melanin-producing skin cells (melanocytes) on a biomimetic tissue substrate.
Lead author Wei Long Ng stated that “3D bioprinting is an excellent platform for the precise deposition of biomaterials and living cells to make biomimetic skin in large volumes with great repeatability.”

Vulcan Rocket With 3D Printed Gas Generator
European Space Agency has tested the 3D printed engine on their newest rocket program, Ariane 6.
The Vulcan 2.1 engine has a 3D printed gas generator. It has allowed the agency to have lower expenses as 3D printing technology is much cheaper. Though cheaper, it has the same efficiency and it was seen in their tests.
Australia Using E-Waste For 3D Filaments
“Micro-factories” is the answer of Australia to the increasing electronic waste in the world today.
One professor from the University of New South Wales, Veena Sahajwalla, a materials scientist, said these can be lessened with the help of 3D printing. The “micro-factories” are small and only a size of a container truck. They will produce and recycle the valuable materials from the e-waste.
3D-Printed House To Be Tested
After the challenge of building a 1,000 sq ft house was issued by Branch Technology, 1,300 challengers from 97 countries took it.
Now, WATG Urban has won the $10,000 and will build their “Curve Appeal” design of the house. They will use the C-FAB system that will let them re-imagine and conceptualize the house better.
