Researchers from Deakin University in Australia have decided to use additive manufacturing to help the Solomon Islands after being devastated by a typhoon.
They manufactured spare parts for the pipeline of the place. They only brought solar-powered 3D printed then used the plastic waste on the island and turned them into usable filament to start their operations. Dr. Mazher Mohammed is hoping they can teach the locals so they can do it themselves for future catastrophes.
Balenciaga Uses 3D Printing Technology To Make Their New Collection
Another big fashion icon has used 3D printing technology to fulfill their latest collection. Balenciaga decided to use additive manufacturing in their clothes.
The designer of the newest collection, Demna Gvasalia has used 3D printing to make a series of exaggerated contour jackets for Balenciaga’s Autumn/Winter 2018 collection. The collection is seen to have broad shoulders, narrow waists, and wide hips, and those were because of 3D scanning and 3D printing.
Realistic-Looking Tree Branch Drawn From 3D Pen
An art piece called “Portrait of a Birch” by artist Martin Binder is created from a 3D printing pen.
It is a four-meter-long birch tree sculpture made of the wood-plastic composite filament. The piece is currently displayed in Berlin at the Super Bien! Greenhouse for Contemporary Art. It is hanged in a glass casing so that people can see it without going near it or touching it.
New Bioprinting Technique By University of British Columbia Canada
The University of British Columbia in Canada researchers and professors has developed a new technique in bioprinting.
This newly thought of technique is using 3D structures of tissues from real live human beings. It is said to be very beneficial for treating those with severe burns, organ problems, and cancer. Also, it is laser-based bioprinting method is being developed at UBC’s Okanagan campus.
