May 29, 2022Car manufacturers initially used 3D printing technology for prototyping concept models, parts and other essential components. The application of additive manufacturing has been very helpful for the automotive industry, particularly in terms of materializing and furthering new ideas for future auto innovations.
3D printing an entire car is just too unimaginable for now, but the next best thing is here courtesy of Honda. The famous Japanese automaker is making data from old concept models available so people can print them out at home. Users can download files and make their own Hondas replicas under the Creative Commons 4.0 license through the Honda 3D Design Archives website. Honda has uploaded five of their coolest concepts so far, that comprises models from the past 2 decades such as the 1994 FSR, 1999 Fuya-Jo, 2003 Kiwami, 2007 Puyo, and the newly introduced Acura NSX concept at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.
According to the press release from Motor Authority, this is a major part of Honda’s ongoing public relations campaign to advocate the “art of manufacturing.” This 3D printing project will offer users the extraordinary feel for what it’s like to manufacture a car. Honda also aims to solidify their brand as a company with a different approach on car manufacturing business.
